Paddlefest 2012

This years paddlefest will be held on September 21st – 23rd in Hidden Valley, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow.

What is Paddlefest

– A weekend away for juniors aged 10 to 18 years who are members of Canoeing Ireland and who hold a Level 2 skills award or equivalent where they are introduced to the different canoe / kayak disciplines.

When is Paddlefest

– Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd September 2012 (Registration from 8 to 9.30pm on Friday 21st September, and from 7 to 8.30am on Saturday 22nd September)

Aims of Paddlefest

  • Introduce juniors to the different canoe / kayak disciplines and associated skills – Freestyle, GP, Marathon / Sprint, Open canoe, Polo, Slalom, Wild water racing
  • Introduce paddlers to the benefits of the different paddling disciplines
  • Improve paddling skills
  • Increase participation in competitive disciplines
  • Expose juniors to local, national, European and international coaches and instructors
  • Develop a medium for the future growth of juniors in clubs nationwide
  • Enjoyment
  • Fun

Where is it

– Hidden Valley Holiday Park, Rathdrum. This is a camping and caravan park, with a small lake in the middle of the park and the River Avonmore bisecting the park. There are a number of chalets onsite. Otherwise, it’s camping or caravanning. There is also an adventure playground, burger bar and coffee shop onsite  

Booking

  1. Pre registration is essential, and must be with the Paddlefest team by close of business on Monday, 3rd September
  2. Places are booked on a first come basis
  3. Deposit or full payment secures booking

Cost

– covers Paddlefest activities and lunch on 22nd and 23rd September only

  • €40 per junior (whether an individual junior or part of a group booking)
  • €30 per junior for introductory camp
  • €40 per adult for introductory camp
  • €40 per junior for Level 3 kayak skills training / rescue skills (terms and conditions apply)
  • €45 per junior for Level 4 / 5 kayak skills training (terms and conditions apply)

 Accommodation to be arranged with, and paid directly to Hidden Valley Holiday Park. Contact the park on 086 7272872 to book your onsite accommodation

B&B accommodation available in Jacobs Well (0404 46282) and the Stirabout (0404 43142) in Rathdrum village

A day / weekend charge will be levied by the park for those not staying onsite (rate to be confirmed)
